Synagro is an environmental agricultural company that works with municipalities and farmers in sustainability. Specifically I work alongside water reclamation facilities to land apply biosolids on beneficial use sites approved by the OEPA. These beneficial use sites are farm fields and I work alongside farmers to provide organic fertilizers in the form of biosolids. Biosolids or “bio-sludge” is a product of the wastewater treatment process that is rich in mainly organic phosphorous and nitrogen. My responsibilities include keeping relationships with farmers and generators at the water reclamation facilities as well as working alongside regulators such as OEPA and county officials to ensure that the land application of biosolids is safe and within the regulations of the law. I calculate agronomic rates for land application and have a knowledge of the roles that phosphorous and nitrogen have in the environment. I also work in the technical aspect and prepare fields for beneficial use.

I spent most of my junior high, high school, and college years working on a grain farm that is owned and operated by my grandfather Robert Riepenhoff and my uncle Brian Riepenhoff. Learned how to operate machinery such as tractors and front loaders.

Lima, Ohio Area

I have close to two years of experience working in a fully functional environmental laboratory. I have primarily worked with analyzing wastewater for toxicants through the test method of Bioassay. My main duties include preparing wastewater samples for testing, performing the testing procedures themselves, and interpreting the results of these tests. I also take care of the testing organisms (Pimephales promelas, Ceriodaphnia dubia) by feeding and breeding them. I also made sure they had optimum environments to live in (water quality, temperature). Some of my other duties include performing Total Suspended Solids and Biochemical Oxygen demand tests. I have experience working with the field department of Alloway as well. I can work outside in various conditions and operate the company vehicles with a valid driver’s license.
