In the Army I was a chemical specialist, able to confidently use and maintain recon/deacon equipment provided by the military. Upon assignment I was attached to a headquarters platoon where I was to the sole chemical qualified soldier for the company. Yearly I conducted retraining courses for soldiers and ran equipment testing to make sure everyone’s gear worked and was receiving proper maintenance. The company sent me to further training to receive my DOD HAZMAT certification. I used this on a monthly basis, being sent to other units to certify shipments and for my unit itself when they were activated for deployment. After I left the army I found my place in a leadership role as a manager for a college sports bar, State Street Brats. Working my way up from floor manager to general manager I gained experience in managment level customer service, learning efficient and practical ways to dealing with difficult customer situations. Working with employees from step one, I effectively hired and on-boarded all staff. I scheduled a crew of over 60 employees ranging from college students working part time to full time employees and implemented a training interface creating over 40 courses for new and senior staff. Along with positive encouragements I also dealt with write ups, employee harassment complaints and ,for those who could not comply with company policy, terminations. In the years of my career path I have had the opportunity to experience a breadth of challenges guided by many great advisors and peers. I enjoy comparing my life to the obstacle courses I found myself running down while in Basic Training in the Army. Without my battle buddies, my mental determination or my drill sergeants keeping me on my toes, each and every obstacle would have been daunting and near impossible. Yet, I completed everyone of them and it leaves me wanting to find the next obstacle.
