On Earth Peace's Social Action Research Team whose purpose is to produce a collective analysis of possibilities and recommendations about how and whether On Earth Peace could move forward in catalyzing our constituency to act in solidarity with the emerging movement for racial justice, catalyzed by the Trigger Events in Ferguson, MO.

The National Council is in effect the Governing Board of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA. This is an Unpaid/Volunteer Position. National Council Members are elected and serve for three year periods. One can serve for two consecutive three year periods after which at least one year needs to pass before one is reelected to this position. Sam previously served for two consecutive three year periods from 2005 - 2011. He was reelected to the National Council this Spring and rejoined the Council officially this June 2013.

Upper Xtreme Fellowship is a group of Young Teens and Twenties who together with a group of Adult Mentors are seeking to learn how to do Community better as they seek to Draw Closer to God. Many in UXF have had Struggles with the Institutional Church which is part of what Draws us Together. We are also Drawn Together by Mutual Interests such as Music. We are open and Non-Judgemental.... and Welcome those who still Struggle with the Idea of God. The Upper Xtreme began as the vision of a concert ministry at the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Aurora, IL. It was the brain child of Rev Sam Smith and one of the youths in his Youth Group: Jake Fischer. It ran for about six years as a concert ministry from 2001 until 2007. It was later revived for a concert at the Gary United Methodist Church in FEB 2009. Now it is functioning as the Umbrella for a New Progressive Fellowship/Congregation/Church for those, mainly youth, who have been disenfranchised by the church in general. The purpose is to provide open, all embracing, love and fellowship for all. The expressions to be in the form of UX Chats, UX Excursions, UX Concerts, UX FEEDS,UX Discussions, UX Book Studies etc.

Governing Body of the WSFPC. The West Suburban Faith-based PEACE Coalition is an Affiliate Group of the Fellowship of Reconciliation. WSFPC is an initiative of faith-based peacemakers from across Chicago's western suburbs. WSFPC includes clergy, congregations, church staff, lay persons, faith-based peace organizations, peace and justice committees, religious communities, and more, spanning from Oak Park to Elgin and Joliet. WSFPC is committed to sustaining work of peace through activities such as prayer vigils, public witness, peace education, lobbying/legislative initiatives, and interfaith dialogue.

During the Summer of 1968, just after graduating from High School. Sam Smith served as a Summer Missionary in Medellin, Colombia, S.A. That Summer Sam was challenged by the extreme poverty which he encountered over and against the fact that he was part of a Missionary Effort which was the Spoken Word only. As he juxtaposed this experience against the teachings of the Gospels. Sam became convinced that the Gospel of Jesus Christ must be Preached both in Word and Deed. As a result, during the entire school year of ’68-’69, Sam crafted a “glorified Slide Show” to tell the story of his Summer of 1968. This new show, Summer Revolution, debuted during the Summer of 1969. Thus Heavy Light was born in South America and then first Breathed into Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan.Eventually, Sam’s one projector show evolved into a Computerized, Twenty-Six Slide Projector, Three Screen, Video Enhanced, Laser-Highlighted Production, complete with Flashpot Explosions. In 1982, Sam Smith and Heavy Light even toured on the SERVANT and PETRA WORLD TOUR providing a 40’ X 80’ Rear Projected Backdrop for the Tour Songs.Currently Sam Smith is available as a Youth Speaker. Sam has been a Youth Speaker since 1968 when he was a student at Moody Bible Institute, worked with Chicagoland Youth for Christ as a Campus Life Club Director…. And first took Heavy Light “on the road”. He is currently AVAILABLE for SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS with focus upon both Youth and Adults. Although currently not touring with his infamous Multi-Screen, Multi-Projector, Laser-Highlighted Road Show, Most of his Speaking Engagements are enhanced with various levels of Visual Media. Subjects include Reaching/Teaching Youth, Bible Exploration, Peace/Justice Issues…..And most involve Opportunity for Commitment to Further Action.

Aurora Shalom Ministries (ASM) is a not-for-profit organization that serves a multiracial and vulnerable population in Aurora, Illinois, where gangs, shootings and prostitution are endemic. Last year over 250 children and adults were registered in our programs, and 150 adults and youth volunteered.ASM is one of the original Communities of Shalom, founded by the United Methodist Church following the Los Angeles race riots. ASM aims to bring Shalom, the peace and justice of God, to a community in desperate need of it. ASM's mission is to plan, develop, and initiate programs that will empower economically disadvantaged individuals in Aurora.These activities are in the form of educational and nurturing opportunities and of housing and economic development.
