Generative Lead, Exploration
Senior Research Scientist
I am an economic geologist and geochemist who specializes in sediment-hosted metal deposits and Precambrian geological research. My main areas of expertise are the genesis of Zn-Pb and Cu mineralization in sedimentary basins, specifically in Australian terranes, and the geochemical exploration for these mineral systems. I also active in research into Earth surface/atmospheric redox evolution in deep geological time, and the evolution of life in early earth environments.
Research Scientist
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Mineral exploration research in the Proterozoic Capricorn Orogen of Western Australia as part of the CSIRO Minerals Down Under Flagship:http://www.csiro.au/Organisation-Structure/Flagships/Minerals-Down-Under-Flagship.aspxhttp://www.sciencearchive.org.au/policy/uncover.html
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Selenium and Tellurium concentration by Organic Materials (STORM).NERC funded Security of Supply of Minerals project. The aim of the project is to improve our understanding of the concentration of Se (and Te) in low-temperature (near-surface) environments, specifically involving interactions with organic materials. This combines collaborative geological and microbiological studies. Microbiological data will help to understand how Se may be concentrated in geological protoliths, and will also give a strong steer towards how Se-rich raw materials may be further beneficiated.
Exploration Geologist
Grass roots exploration project focussing on gold mineralisation within the West Nile Block Archaean gneissic terranes of South Sudan. The exploration license area is located within the Aswa Shear Zone, and was one of the first licenses to be granted in the newly independent South Sudan. This unexplored post-conflict region offers a diverse range of experience for geologists, and is an exciting place to work in the field. My responsibilities covered all aspects of the exploration process in the field, including:- Reconnaissance and detailed geological mapping- Field sampling- QA/QC Procedures- Data interpretation and management- Technical team management- Geological synthesis- GIS- Logistics- First Aid, and appointed Health and Safety person
Phd Researcher
During my doctoral research I worked on a range of themes concerned with both ore deposits and the evolution of the Precambrian surface environment redox geochemistry. My work focussed on geological evidence for atmospheric oxygenation and subsequent concentration of metals in the Proterozoic Torridonian Supergroup of NW Scotland, and the Midcontinent Rift System of North America. The research covered field exploration and lab-based analyses in areas including the characterisation and exploration of sedimentary, supergene and exhalative metalliferous ore deposits, particularly in the Archaean and Proterozoic terranes; reconstruction of progressive atmospheric oxygenation throughout the Precambrian and the effects on Earth's surface geochemistry; evolution of mineral resources and systems through geological time.Key components of my doctoral work included the study of:- Supergene copper and trace metal deposits- Banded iron formations and related exhalative deposits- Volcanic-hosted massive sulphides- Vanadium and uranium deposits- Phosphorites and carbon burial in lacustrine systems- Sulphur isotopes of sulphides and sulphates.- Geochemical proxies for atmospheric oxygenation.- Reconstruction of the Archaean and Proterozoic terranes of Scotland and North America.
