Also attached to 1/101st Airborne, 4/10th Mountain, 5/2 Stryker Brigade in Kandahar, AF• Collect information from green, white, and red sources, analyze, and advise on Human Terrain issues including security, transition, governance, stability operations, tribal dynamics, leadership, education, and social issues. • Integrate with local governance and military to gather analyze and brief (NATO O-7 and above).• Advise the commanders and command staffs using a variety of advanced collection and data analysis techniques to measure capabilities, intentions, vulnerabilities, and issues of the population green and white layer and propose recommendations concerning policy change and new programs.• Ascertain objectives based on military goals and create changes in policy and procedures based on successful studies to mitigate undesired 2nd and 3rd order effects of military action.• Present findings to higher command (O-6 and above) to determine best course of action, modify current situations, and add to the body of knowledge and identify knowledge and information gaps and propose remedies, refine data collection strategies, and work with intelligence sources to modify military actions to better achieve objectives.• Exercise the full spectrum of Human Terrain activities including socio-cultural primary and secondary social science information collection, and analysis, and training of new social science personnel.• Conduct mixed-methods social science research in Afghanistan to advise the military and influence the decision-making process to mitigate negative effects through deeper understanding of cultural and social dynamics.• Liaise with NATO, Afghan and Pakistani civilian and military entities as a subject matter expert.• Acting Team Leader for approximately 30% of the time.
