Promoted after 4 months of bar work to a management position, I am responsible for managing a team of up to 5, whilst ensuring the bar and hotel are run smoothly. This has helped develop my interpersonal skills, dealing both with paying customers and my colleagues. I have done this whilst juggling a full time MSc.

During a week long period of work experience I gained insight into many of the 'moving parts' of my hometown's oldest running company. I worked in the bottling plant, the brewery's shop and in the lab they have on site, where I was involved in the controlling and testing of the quality of the ingredients and the monitoring of the brewing process. This was then followed by work over following summers and Christmas periods, as an assistant to the brewers. My role was to maintain, clean and monitor the fermenting vessels, overseeing the fermentation of over 140 tonnes of beer at any given time. The role also involved the meticulous use and monitoring of a number of chemical cleaners, which had to be signed out and controlled upon use. This helped develop my attention to detail, as any mistake in the paperwork or usage could leave the brewery and its staff open to potential hazards.

I spent time whilst undertaking my further mathematics A level working as a Maths teacher for children with learning differences. This was a very rewarding task as I learnt new ways to tackle problems and explain the solutions in ways that are not the traditional route, so they may be understood more easily. This lead to me reevaluating the way I learnt which has helped me significantly during my studies. I also gained an appreciation for the different way in which people approach tasks, which helped at university in group projects when delegating tasks to individuals as I was better able to assign roles to those with complimentary skillsets.
