After gaining experience working as a porter I transitioned in to the role of receptionist. In this role I interacted with and shaped the guest experience from a different perspective. I continued to learn procedures and practices relating to the operations of the hotel while also identifying areas where gains in efficiency were able to be made. During my time as a receptionist I also spent stints of time working in Night Audit and the Maintenance Department, in order to a more well rounded and wholistic idea of how different departments within the hotel interact.

My time spent working as a porter allowed me to start learning about the hotel business from the ground up. I was often the first point of contact with guests as I collected and processed luggage in different ways depending on the situation. I also provided guests with assistance and information to ensure their experience was as pleasant as possible from the moment they stepped through our door.During quieter moments I would learn a variety of new skills from reception staff as well as assisting in general tasks relating to the operation of the hotel. I would communicate between different stakeholders within the hotel to ensure efficient and effective operations. I also used what I was seeing and learning to assist hotel head office to better allocate resources in certain operational areas.

I made delicious food under pressure to satisfy a magnitude of customers at a busy McDonalds restaurant. This developed my ability to work under pressure, to very tight and exceedingly high standards. I was accountable to managers for my area reaching 'Key Performance Indicators' relating to customer service times and quality of service. During this time I was often charged with sorting the operation of the kitchen area, placing people in the best positions to achieve the most efficient and effective outcome, always challenging my co-workers to improve and grow by setting clear expectations and monitoring how those were delivered.During my time at McDonalds I was also continuously developing my own skill set, undertaking maintenance tasks, delivery, stock take and front counter duties.Beyond this I was trained in many of McDonalds' world famous processes and procedures. These modules gave me a unique perspective from the world's largest fast food chain, particularly in regards to customer service and satisfaction which is an area McDonalds has been particularly successful in over a long period.Achievements during my time at McDonalds include employee of the month and employee of the quarter awards.

I assisted with administrative and various other duties in a boutique marketing firm. These included responding to emails, updating web content, research and client liaison. My time at Turbo Marketing developed my practical research ability as well as my ability to maintain relationships with key stakeholders and communicate with different levels of an organisation.
