About Sam Tomkins

Sam Tomkins is an engaged and future-focused designer, with vast experience in user-centered design, systems design, manufacturing and mechanical design engineering.Sam currently holds a position as Senior Lecturer of Design in the Faculty of Arts and Design; a role which operates at the intersection of design, research and emergent manufacturing technologies. In addition to broad experience in CAD/CAM software and digital visualization tools, Sam has developed research specializations in sustainable high-performance composites, robotic 3d printing and sports science/medical equipment.With over 10 years industrial design experience, Sam also contributes as an enthusiastic and collaborative member of the Industrial design academic teaching staff at the University of Canberra.

    Sam Tomkins is an Industrial designer, currently engaged in a range of creative projects from furniture and homewares to toys for linguistic education. Outside of his studio he also teaches at the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design in digital design, manufacturing technologies and visual representation. Sam graduated from the University of Canberra in 2013 where he was awarded the Design Institute of Australia Graduate of the year award (NSW/ACT) for product design and the Michael Bryce Award for Design Excellence. Driven by a process of problem solving through experimentation, Sams design outcomes are influenced by materials and production techniques; both traditional and emergent.
