As a doctoral student, I have characterised bacteria in drinking water via two pathways:*The detection of bacteria in drinking water: application of flow cytometry as fast and high-throughput screening method for drinking water microbiology. Use of flow cytometry to characterise the bacterial communities in water samples and conduct field work in collaboration with drinking water industry. The optimization of flow cytometry protocols. I am convinced that flow cytometry is now 100% ready for replacing heterotrophic plate counts in routine drinking water analysis.*Characterise drinking water microbiology and growth of bacteria in the distribution network. Revealing the main factors influencing bacterial growth in drinking water and other oligotrophic environments. During my PhD, I have been involved in teaching in wastewater treatment design and guide master's thesis students.Finally, I have coached in sessions on effective scientific communication and presentation skills.
