Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience (PPN) - Pocivavsek Lab-Annotate vigilance states on rats (Non-Rapid-Eye-Movement [NREM], Rapid-Eye-Movement [REM], and Wakefulness) using polysomnography (Electroencephalogram [EEG] and Electromyogram [EMG], Activity)-Project: Microdialysis-Aging -Cut brain in coronal slices at the lateral hypothalamus from microdialysis surgeries on sleep, trained two others in this protocol -Use histology and microscope to ensure microdialysis cannula placement -Assist in preparation of kynurenine injections (5 mg/kg) for a kynurenine challenge in rats-Project: the effects of prenatal kynurenic acid on sleep quality across adolescence -Administer Embryonic Kynurenine diet (EKyn paradigm) to pregnant rats from ED 15-22 to mimic insults during pregnancy that activate the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan degradation -Aid in sleep deprivation experiments and tissue collection in adolescent rats (mothers fed EKyn diet) to measure kynurenic acid, corticosterone, and cytokine levels in the following areas: hypothalamus, brainstem, prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, striatum, and cortex

-Support the complete process of planning and executing trainee events at SLEEP 2025-Participate in conference calls to generate ideas for topics and speakers for Trainee events-Connect with and serve as mentors with interested trainees ahead of the SLEEP 2025 conference to help ensure their SLEEP experience is positive and rewarding

-Trained under Dr. Alexandria Reynolds, Ph.D.-Trained in running human participants (CITI certified)-Trained in initializing, maintaining, and downloading Philips Respironics actiwatches -Proficient in developing tools for data collection through Qualtrics-Created a study, developed IRB research protocol, and submitted through eIRB, approved with no revisions -Facilitate cognitive tasks through PEBL

-Assistantship in Teaching of Psychology (AToP) (internship under Dr. Melanie Palomares, Ph.D.)-Class: Introduction to Neuroscience-Mentor: Dr. Alexandria Reynolds, Ph.D.-Foster professional interactions with teaching faculty mentors and student peers-Applying the principles of Cognition, Learning and Memory, and Social Psychology to the teaching of psychology-Weekly internship meetings for training to help support fellow undergraduate students-FERPA certified-1 hour weekly office hours and 1 hour weekly supplemental instruction of foundational neuroscience concepts including functional neuroanatomy, neural development, neurulation, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, psychopharmacology, and sleep & biological rhythms
