As Director of the SmartWay and Supply Chain Programs Center, leads the EPA’s SmartWay programs to help companies advance supply chain sustainability through a collection of initiatives including the SmartWay Transport Partnership (measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency), SmartWay Technology Verification and branding (testing and developing operational practices for fuel-saving innovations), and SmartWay Global Collaborations (work to harmonize sustainability accounting methods in transboundary, global supply chains).

Filled variety of roles over the two decades as an Officer in the MDARNG including Operations Chief, Deputy Plans Officer, Deputy Chief of CBRN (29th Infantry Division), Training Management Assistance Team Chief, Commander (231st Chemical Co, Recon/Decon), and Chemical Officer. Experience spanning multi-national and interagency contingency exercises, domestic support of civilian authorities (including COVID-19 pandemic response), organizational strategy and planning, training management, CBRN advising at National/Regional level, and warfighting (Iraq War Veteran).

Managed and led CBRN Consequence Management Advisory Division (C-CMAD), housing one of USEPAs National Special Teams providing leadership, expertise, and response capabilities for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) as well as all-hazard events in the U.S. Supporting the emergency response community 24/7/365 during all phases of crisis and consequence management, this Special Team employs field-ready experts, the PHILIS deployable laboratory, and the ASPECT airborne chemical and radiation screening platform.

SmartWay Technology Team Leader managing a program to speed the development and deployment of technologies that reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in heavy-duty vehicles that move freight. This program provides a “common measuring stick” to inform technology decisions for U.S. trucking fleets by verifying the fuel-saving performance of idle reduction, tire, and aerodynamic equipment. Developed policy, performance metrics, and standardized test methods for technology to be used to improve the fuel-efficiency for heavy-duty trucks. Specializing in aerodynamics, conducted original research using wind tunnels, computational fluid dynamics programs, and full-scale truck testing on the track and road.

Program Lead and Policy Analyst in the EPA’s Clean Air Markets Division developing and implementing market-based, innovative programs to reduce air emissions from U.S. power plants. Led regulatory efforts and supported major legislative initiatives with technical analysis, contributions to rule promulgations, and public outreach.

Supported U.S. EPA contracts conducting technical work on human health risk assessments related to the combustion of toxic materials.

Supported U.S. EPA mission conducting a variety of technical work related to the Clean Air Act.
