Brought into the University by the CFO to “Fix the engine and Reduce the noise” as the University’s procurement function was not fit for purpose. In order to “fix the engine” it was essential to undertake a full review of the Procurement structure, current systems and processes to identify the issues and then implement a future proof procurement function.Key deliverables were- A new Procurement Structure supporting both Above £100k centrally and Below £100k. This was achieved through a de-centralised team providing Procurement support for the University’s devolved community, working across Faculties to leverage spend and drive efficiencies.- Clearly defined Procurement Strategy & Value Proposition.- Procurement Policy that is consistent across the UoN for all 3rd party outsourced spend to drive efficiencies.- Simpler, leaner and compliant ways of working – SOP/WI/Toolkits in place to standardise a consistent way of working.- Increased savings identification using opportunity assessment reporting with clear methodology for reporting.- Reduced risk through transparent and increased Contract Management.- Early signs of enhanced supplier performance by clearer SRM Strategy.- Undertaking a CIPS Accreditation award.

I would own, lead and ensure delivery of multiple procurement engagements, savings workstreams and delivery outcomes across numerous clients on behalf of the Retearn Group. Part of the seniorleadership team and reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. I had direct Line management and leadership of consultants across all my engagements to ensure successful delivery against internal P&L challenges. Each client would have agreed deliverables, including savings targets and timeframes. The delivery model was usually a flexible resource but fixed fee which meant managing workloads and flexing resources to ensure the P&L would not be affected if timelines stretched or if more resources were required.Key engagements included Serco, Sports England, Marston, South Warwickshire Foundation Trust, CLH-PS.
