I now manage the team reasonsible for both cloud and physical infrastructure at Tails.com. This extends my previous cloud-centric remit to include cyber security, licence management, end user computing and operational resilience.

At Tails.com I lead the Cloud Infrastructure Team which is responsible for delivering resilient, efficient and secure infrastructure and developer tooling. During my time at the business the team has grown to four members and evolved to take on responsibilities including Platform Engineering, Data Engineering and Internal IT.The team has been instrumental in the standardisation of how software is deployed, operated and monitored; to enable developers to get on with writing software without having to worry about best practices for reliability and security.We manage Kubernetes clusters, AWS accounts and associated logging, monitoring and deployment infrastructure. We also work across Software Engineering to provide advice, tooling and assistance where required to improve the way in which we deliver our services.

At Pulselive, I led the migration of the platform (around fifty microservices) from a mixture of technologies to a more standardised Kubernetes platform. This included Prometheus monitoring, Elasticsearch-based logging, Jaeger tracing as well as all the auto-scaling and resilience you would expect to deal with the sudden increases in load during sporting events. This change improved the reliability of the platform and enabled many other improvements to software delivery performance.After this initial migration, I led a small team responsible for improving the infrastructure and CI/CD, as well as delivering standardised tooling and processes for software delivery to the business as a whole. We were also responsible for the management of around ten Kubernetes clusters, fifteen platform environments and twenty AWS accounts as well as assisting clients with running the platform in their own infrastructure.

I joined the company as Systems Administrator for an infrastructure using a mixture of Windows and Linux. Due to the size of the company this involved everything from 1st line desktop support to managing VMWare infrastructure and process automation.When they began building a cloud-based data platform running on AWS ECS, I quickly became the infrastructure lead and spent most of my time within cross-functional development teams, following DevOps principles and striving to build 12 factor apps. Later I was heavily involved in building their on-premise solution running on Kubernetes. As well as infrastructure I was also involved in almost every aspect of the development process including working with clients at home and overseas.

As the primary technical resource in the company, I acted as a consultant to customers by scoping, deploying, training teams on, and providing technical support for a Mobile Device Management solution. This provided me with an opportunity work with the IT teams of a wide array of organisations and develop an understanding of how their systems operate. I also maintained the internal IT Infrastructure which was primarily based on VMWare ESXi and Windows Server.

Excelian Limited is an international financial IT consultancy company. I spent three months working as part of the IT operations team at their London office in Islington. During this time I was involved in the day to day administration and support of their IT systems as well as the relocation of an office of approximately 100 employees. My time at Excelian gave me the opportunity to develop my skills in the administration of products such as Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange, as well as both the technical and interpersonal skills required in the technical support of a business.

Lanz Limited is an IT consultancy company and ISP based in London. During this two week placement I built workstations and servers independently for the business and shadowed employees engaged in various aspects of the work of the company.
