See above reference under Theatre Consultant for my primary role. However, I am trained in acoustics as well and deliver that advice as part of my service in smaller projects. Managing Director

Sam Wise Associates

Sam Wise Associates was my own consulting practice over the period from 1987 to 1997. This gave me an opportunity to develop my role as a technology consultant, usually specialising in sound and audio visual systems, with a number of world-leading theatre consulting practices, including: Artec Arup Theatreplan Theatre Projects In addition, I was a staff writer for Studio Sound Magazine and provided product design advice to a range of industry manufacturers - always of course informing any consulting clients of my other roles where there was any possibility of inferred conflict of interest.

Product Technical Reviews

Studio Sound Magazine

Studio Sound Magazine was the dominant sound industry technical magazine from about 1973 until 1997. It provided much of the post-university technical training available in the UK over this period, together with Wireless World magazine, and the Audio Engineering Society.Studio Sound had the proud tradition of Independent Technical Product Reviews over its whole life. I learned an enormous amount from this source - culminating in Hugh Ford - who died unexpectedly in about 1986.It was my privilege to follow in his footsteps, reviewing and writing about professional audio technology, using my personal experience as a user and product designer, my ears, my love of music and the arts and my writing skills. Hopefully, the sidebars in my articles, which were intended to dig deeper into a technical topic associated with the particular product review, helped to further educate others in the industry.

Theatre Consultant

London

Theatre Consultant specialist in Audio Video and Performance Communications Systems.

Oct 1987 - Sep 1996

Head Of Special Project Group

London, United Kingdom

I joined Theatre Projects to be a recording engineer and as their only electronics qualified technical support specialist for the studios and their sound and lighting rental business. There were a lot of studios in London in those days, and our mid-range status made the recording work a bit tedious. But designing products ranging from mixing consoles, through theatre communications systems (TecPro Intercom System), to loudspeakers and early lighting control networks (proceeding DMX) proved exciting and simulating. As a result, TP grew a contracting and manufacturing business that was later spun-off as Technical Projects Limited.
