Contributing to UI, web service and command line tool automation and test frameworks. Contributing to test tooling including Puppet's open source Beaker framework. Creating a ruby gem for parallel execution, integrating it with Beaker and advocating across the company for executing in parallel when possible to execute tests more quickly and use less resources. Contributing to processes and best practices. Pushing for QA team to act more like a scrum team in prioritizing QA wide efforts. Created Intellij plugin for Beaker test framework.

Created automation infrastructure, automated test cases, test plans and led a team of 10 QA Engineers and SDETs. Had frequent interaction with other teams in the Go To Market organization and helped two of them: create test plans and automation as well as find good resources for their own teams by sitting in on interviews. I also helped my team share their expertise and promoted their innovations with automation infrastructure and performance engineering. Additionally, seeing a lack of central QA infrastructure and best practices, I created a yammer group for QA across the company where I posted tips about automation, hiring and QA and answered questions from other QA engineers. I also helped start a meeting with QA and automation representatives from teams across the Go to Market organization to discuss QA automation.

I began as the sole SDET at Webtrends where I defined and implemented automation and automation infrastructure for all of their core products. When I arrived, one product had partial automated coverage of one feature. When I left, all 3 of the core products had significant automated tests running per build, and the newest product had nearly 100% automated coverage, allowing for much more agility in releases and much faster validation of deployments. I updated a full-featured but un-maintained (broken) home brewed automation platform, set up UI automation with an abstraction on top of Selenium, helped grow the team with 3 great hires of strong SDET's, created a deployment validation tool and set up automated performance tests which aided in pinpointing and fixing a number of critical performance issues.

I contracted at Microsoft from 1997 until 2004 and worked full time there from 2004-2011. My primary responsibilities included manual and automated testing, performance testing and creation of and contributions to a number of test tools. For the last 4 years I was one of 2-3 QA resources on the Windows Live Infrastructure team. I was the primary developer, maintainer and supporter of the most widely used web UI automation framework at Microsoft (used by all of Windows Live and teams from Windows and Office organizations). I also created the test logging and reporting infrastructure used across all of Windows Live from the ground up, consolidating previously silo'd test results from all teams in the org. In addition, I contributed to the newly spun up CI platform being used across the org, and led various smaller virtual efforts.
