Dr. Ir. Samad Solbai, a distinguished Malaysian individual, was brought into this world in July of the year 1951. His most recent role was that of an Independent non Executive director at S & F Capital Bhd, a position he assumed on the 5th of September in the year 2024. It is worth noting that he has been enjoying a well-deserved retirement from full-time employment since October of the year 2011.Dr. Ir. Samad is a certified Professional Engineer and a respected Fellow of the Instituition of Engineers, Malaysia. Throughout his illustrious career, he spent a significant amount of time in academia, serving in various capacities such as Associate Professor, Head of Production & Industrial Engineering Department, Dean of Mechanical Engineering, and Dean of Research & Consultancy Unit at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Additionally, he boasts over two decades of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry. His academic achievements include a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious University of Cambridge, an M.Eng.Sc. in Materials Engineering from Monash University, a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Caulfield Institute of Technology, and a Graduate Diploma in Islamic Studies from the esteemed International Islamic University, Malaysia. Dr. Ir. Samad also honed his skills by attending Advanced Management courses at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and GE’s training centre at Crotonville, New York.With a wealth of hands-on experience in oil & gas engineering and Fabrication, Dr. Ir. Samad served as the CEO of PT. Gunanusa Utama Fabricators, Indonesia from 2005 to 2011, as well as the Head of Oil & Gas Division in Sime Darby and CEO of Sime Sembcorp (SSE) Sdn Bhd from 1991 to 1999. Notably, during his tenure, SSE and Gunanusa successfully completed the fabrication and delivery of numerous offshore oil & gas platforms valued at billions of Ringgit, which are currently operational in Malaysian, Indonesian, Bruneian, Indian, and Thai waters. Furthermore, Dr. Samad briefly held the position of Group Managing Director at Shapadu Corporation for a period of 18 months starting in mid-1999.In addition to his impressive professional background, Dr. Ir. Samad has served as a company director on the boards of Kontena Nasional Berhad, TH Heavy Engineering Bhd, Carrier Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and Rock Chemical Industries Berhad for more than a decade each. Presently, he holds the position of Director and Chairman at Li-Zainal Sdn. Bhd, a company specializing in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering consultancy.
