Control Software Engineer - Motion Control R&D
At the European XFEL, I focused on evolving our control system Karabo and Beckhoff PLCs integration using Python's asyncio for an asynchronous event-driven approach. My role involved developing a more efficient communication interface using Python, optimizing data exchange, and improving system reliability by introducing a comprehensive self-description via JSON, enhancing user interaction and separating static data from dynamic data. The project improved upon past designs for future scalability, maintainability and increased testability, achieving a 92% test coverage with PyTest for robust unit and integration tests. The project is planned to be used by around 15000 diverse hardware devices at the European XFEL after 2025 long shutdown of the facility.
