In my artistic and teaching practices, I strive to empower the individual through active engagement with the creative process. I excel at creating open-ended, project-based, and student-led learning opportunities, and have worked in arts education for over fifteen years, including arts-integration, talented and gifted, and higher education. Most recently, as Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. My interest in supporting the individual in the creative process carries into my work as co-creator of Extended Practice, an artist-led initiative working to make visible the work and meet the needs of artists who are also parents. Since 2016, we have been actively re-imagining how to create inclusive public spaces by removing barriers for participation for mothers and parents. This includes making spaces welcoming and intergenerational, providing childcare, removing fees for participation, budgeting for creative labor, and amplifying under-represented voices. Our curatorial project, "Extended Self," at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago featured a child-friendly reading room imbedded in the exhibition space, featuring a collection of publications, artist-led initiatives, and resources about, by and for artist parents.
