Bio:Samah is an executive leader in Sudan’s private sector with corporate experience in its largest conglomerates with businesses with a combined $2B in revenues in the agriculture, food manufacturing, food security, renewable energy (solar and wind), livestock, oil and gas and telecom industries, with impact measured through a triple bottom line. She has managed a combined strategic project and program portfolio budget of $384M. She also has experience in infrastructure projects (ports, roads, railway) in the East African corridor. Samah was responsible for her company’s corporate venture capital arm that helped to provide mentoring and/or early-stage financing to social innovation start-ups in the areas of agtech, healthcare, medtech, delivery and ridesharing solutions and arts and culture. She has lived and worked in the United States, Rome, Italy, London, UK, Dubai, UAE and Khartoum, Sudan. In her most recent corporate role heading Strategy & Business Development at the Haggar Group, headquartered in Dubai, UAE, Samah was responsible for the portfolios of six business units, including the development of the largest solar and wind programs and a ‘food to fork’ strategy for agricultural value chain projects in Sudan. She also had oversight of diverse portfolios in six countries in Africa & the Middle East. Samah has led the planning, development, funding proposals and implementation of large projects in Africa’s private sector. This has included strategic partnerships with government ministries, DFIs and funds such as the African Development Bank, IFC (World Bank), Green Climate Fund as well as UN agencies such as the UNDP and UNEP. She has also consulted for private equity firms across the Middle East & Africa to help strengthen their portfolio companies. She sits on various advisory boards.Samah has led social innovation initiatives to address humanitarian challenges in Sudan, one of the most fragility, violence and conflict-affected countries on the globe. She drove the ‘bottom of the pyramid’ innovations program to ensure that hyper-inflation in Sudan would not drive more families to hunger. Samah is President and co-founding member of diaspora civil society organization US-Educated Sudanese Association (USESA), established to support Sudan's democratic transition.Samah is a graduate of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Finance and Management where she was a Benjamin Franklin & Joseph Wharton Scholar. She has won multiple awards and is a Tutu African Leadership Fellow with the AFLI & University of Oxford.
