As an articling student, I mainly worked for institutional clients on files involving insurance defence and labour and employment issues. I used Westlaw Litigator, Westlaw LabourSource, and CanLii to conduct research on issues such as jurisprudence surrounding personal injury awards and disciplinary penalties. My findings were used in memos, briefs, and correspondences or by a lawyer at a discovery. I also drafted documents such as wills, deeds, separation agreements and commercial leases and a PowerPoint presentation that was used at a continuing legal education conference. Finally, I attended and recorded notes for lawyers at discovery hearings, court hearings, a labour arbitration, and a mediation.

My work as a Research Intern involved me conducting research that was relevant to the organization's 160+ members ranging from small enterprises to large corporations. I studied enrollment in educational programs related to the aerospace and defence sector at Atlantic Canadian post-secondary institutions, conducted a comparative study of defence procurement quotas for historically underrepresented groups in other countries, and conducted a survey of our membership's needs. This information was used by the Atlantic Canadian Aerospace and Defence association at the DEFSEC Atlantic trade show and for various other advocacy efforts.

As a Student Assistant for the Division of Distance, Education, Learning and Technical Support (DELTS) at Memorial University, I worked with confidential information for students who were writing exams by distance. I also conducted research about distance education programs at other Canadian universities for DELTS.

At Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador, I worked on projects designed to improve literacy in Newfoundland and Labrador. A major project I worked on was designing a pamphlet for parents with weak literacy skills outlining the benefits of reading to their children and how they could improve their child's literacy skills. I also worked on Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador's annual membership drive where I wrote letters reminding members of the important role of the organization.

I used Canlii to summarize court cases involving students on workterms across Canada. I also transcribed interviews conducted by a co-op coordinator of other co-op coordinators across Canada about how they approach risk-management for students on workterms.
