I demonstrated the powerful combination of nontoxic, plasma-synthesized silicon quantum dots with low-cost polymers in order to create optically active composite materials for energy harvesting applications. My thesis was highly interdisciplinary, bringing together plasma science, surface chemistry, photonics, and nanomaterial science to develop new light-management technologies. Provided consulting expertise in the areas of nanoparticle synthesis and plasma operations for improving the reliability and efficiency of hypersonic plasma particle deposition (HPPD) processes used in the production of extremely wear-resistant nanostructured carbide coatings.

Developed a method for analyzing blade stress probabilistically for database creation. Researched all currently available data sources with potential for probabilistics. Designed and wrote code in Python to extract data from 3D scans and calculate stress variation due to dimensional variation. Presented work to upper management and documented the developed method.

Worked on a team with one U.S. student and two Botswana students to model and optimize hybrid off-grid energy system options for the unpowered community of Tsetseng, located on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Presented results through a presentation and paper to support future policy decisions.
