Associate Naval Architect June 2013 – Present Scientific Technician (Intern) January-April 2012 and August – December 2012As a part of the engineering team at Exmar Offshore Company I have been able to apply and grow my naval architecture skills in both the Naval Architectural and Structural departments. Some of the tasks completed for new builds and refits include: Structural Departmento Completed FEA global analysis for the upgrade of a drilling vessel to DNV regulations using FEMAP, Nastran and in-house spreadsheets and programs.o Accurately modeled and analyzed local components of vessel structure using FEMAP and Nastran software.o Post processed FEA results for buckling and yielding and verified compliance with classification rules and regulations, such as ABS, DNV, etc. o Completed longitudinal strength analyses for vessels using AutoHydro and Excel.o Assisted with preliminary dead weight survey and design of in-house survey tools.Naval Architectureo Completed vessel mooring arrangements using Ariane.o Completed hydrodynamic calculations using WAMIT and created the panel model for the calculations using Multisurf.o Modeled and analyzed the stability of vessels using Modelmarker and Autohydro software.o Produced the trim and stability booklet for a vessel. o Assisted with the compilation and production of operation manuals for MODUs to IMO Code.o Assisted with the steel material-take-offs for new vessels.

Within the concept design group, I was charged with completing fleet studies for the Royal Canadian Navy.

Research Assistant (Intern) January-April 2010, September-December 2010.I was a research assistant on the Sustainable Technology for Polar Ships and Structures (STePS2) research project. The scope of the project is to investigate ice and structure interactions, and collisions in order to improve the rules associated with arctic operations. My work included the following tasks:• Helped with the concept design of a dynamic impact analysis testing apparatus for research pertaining to the simultaneous deformation of materials and ice.• Utilized Solidworks to design accurate 3D testing apparatuses and used FEA Ansys and Cosmos to improve safety and optimize designs.• Prepared the instrument setup of the data acquisition strain gauges.• Completed material take-offs for the project of electrical and mechanical parts.• Conducted ISO tensile tests on steel samples to gain specific material information• Learned basic mechanics of laboratory growth and crushing behaviour of ice.

As an intern with the Marine Services Division, I assisted the Marin Superintendent oversee the daily operations of the ferry fleet. The following tasks were performed:• Assisted the Marine Superintendent with day-to-day operations of the ferry fleet such as looking at the functions of a contained oil system or sewage system.• Implemented a new electronic filing system for drawings and other office tasks.• Learned the procedure for maintaining a sea going vessel; including when to bring the engine out for a refit and the regulations for an ultrasonic hull check.• Utilized AutoCAD skills by drawing a mast for the MV Sound of Islay.
