Strategic Commercial Director for the Southern Regions of Network Rail Wessex which has spend profile of over £1.3bn per annum. The strategic commercial director plays a key role on the executive team leading all aspects of the business including safety, performance and customer experience as well as all commercial aspects of the business.Demonstrating outstanding safety leadership is an essential part of the role, role modelling at all times and driving a mature safety culture through your the organisation.The commercial director role includes setting the regions commercial strategy, building collaborative strategic relationships with our supply chain, leading the regions commercial teams delivering multi billion pound contracts that enable delivery of our strategic business plan as well as ensuring appropriate governance structure, reporting and KPI’s are in place throughout the function.

The Wessex route is one of the busiest routes on the Network with an annual budget of around £500m, 1800 employees and the UK's business railway station. The FD role includes strategic financial leadership, contracts and procurement, enterprise risk management as well as the analysis and reporting function.Providing support to the managing director and their direct reports as well as deputising for the MD as required means the role covers a large number of areas across the business.Safety leadership is key in a safety critical environment and the FD has a key role across the business in helping improve our safety culture.The FD leads development of our scorecard and KPI's carefully aligning them with the needs of our customers.The FD leads all large commercial work streams and commercial negotiations including the development of alliances with train operators.NR has recently taken over the running of Guildford and Clapham Junction stations and both of these fall within the FD’s portfolio.

Following the creation of an alliance I am the Commercial Director for both South West Trains and Network Rail. Within my portfolio is £850m revenue, £300m of enhancements and renewals to the rail network, contracts and procurement, programme management, strategic business planning, the franchise agreement, key stakeholder management including customers and government and finally business excellence.
