About Sam Brown

An aspiring Project Manager with a strong background as a Senior Design Engineer, focusing on building collaboration within teams and enhancing my capacity to deliver effective solutions. As a problem solver, I have demonstrated leadership in project management, concentrating on improving processes and operational efficiency. My design improvements have led to notable improvements in safety and efficiency, and my commitment to diversity initiatives has boosted team engagement. I am dedicated to aligning our work with company goals, ensuring successful project outcomes through clear communication and strong vendor relationships. As a two time alumni (Bachelors and Masters in Mechanical Engineering) of the University of Connecticut, I have had a successful six-year career as an engineer at two different companies. Throughout my engineering career, I developed the tools of leadership needed for a project manager position. I am an engaging and articulate communicator and I am able to clearly convey complex information and build consensus for projects and budget allocation with key stakeholders, including executive leaders. I have led projects where technicians on the shop floor, extremely technical engineers who created the process, and vice presidents have been in the same room; I am the key translator for all of these individuals to understand each other, communicate, and I am the driver to solve the problem. My work includes interpreting technical and nontechnical data, creating processes and programs from scratch, pivoting in a strategic direction and adapting when things go wrong, managing a budget and a workforce and creating and motivating a team. I am positive that my unique background and experience as a mechanical engineer will allow me to thrive in a position of leadership, personnel management, and working with a diverse staff. In my spare time, I have a very creative side that goes hand in hand with my professional life. I do improv comedy and acting, ballroom and swing dancing, I volunteer in my community, I walked 500 miles across Spain (with several injuries), and I participate in team workout classes and sports like volleyball. Bringing people together and working as a team, adapting under pressure, clear intentional communication and perseverance are just some of the traits that I have developed from these activities. I also have taught Technical Communications for Engineering Ambassadors as an adjunct professor and have created and organized two STEM outreach events for middle schoolers that impacted 1500 local students.
