I work across our age 2 through grade 12 campus to build strong Learning Support and MTSS systems so all students succeed. This year, I supported teacher development in phonics, read aloud, tiered intervention, and reading assessment so more students have strong reading skills and a love of reading.

As a writer and content creator I have written articles for online and print publications. I have also completed projects for adult learning and online course development. My writing clients include: The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Scholastic, WeAreTeachers, Parents.com and more. My consulting clients include: YMCA Charlotte, Get Ready Guilford, WiseWire, and more. Recent projects include: an early literacy app for Anar Ed, a white paper about read aloud for Lira Learning, lesson plans for BBC Learning, and project management for Ryco.

I wrote articles and books on topics including close reading, Common Core, and special education.

As a student support coordinator, I worked with teachers and families to ensure that students were receiving the most appropriate special education services. I also worked with the Network team to ensure compliance with federal special education legislation. Finally, I supervised a team of special education teachers and service providers. Prior to my student support role, I worked as a reading interventionist and provided reading intervention to students across grades 6-8 and supported reading instruction in the middle school setting.

Read Charlotte is a community-wide initiative to double the reading proficiency of 3rd graders in Mecklenburg County by 2025. We will do this by building and supporting collaboration, sharing best practices, and using research and data to shape system actions. One of my projects at Read Charlotte has been leading the work around Active Reading, an evidence-based approach to reading with children that impacts language and literacy skills. EdNC profiled some of the work to train teachers to teach parents how to engage children in Active Reading.

I supported and coached school leaders and teachers in the Springfield, MA area to maximize data-driven decision making to accelerate student achievement and build school capacity.

As a member of the school leadership team, I work to set school goals and work towards achieving those goals. I supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers in grades K-8, special education, art, music, and technology. I also provide whole staff and individual professional development that capitalizes on teacher strengths and develops specific areas of development so that each teacher accelerates student achievement.

I taught and managed a caseload of students in grades K-7. My students made expected or accelerated growth towards their individual goals. In addition, I supervised the after school tutoring program at my campus. I also worked to pilot a developing Response to Intervention program.
