About Samantha Connor

That feeling when you interact with software that provides you with an experience you didn’t even know you wanted - that's what I aim to achieve! I love building the applications that are not only useful, but needed, because they make the lives of their users that much easier. In my current role, I collaborate with other developers, designers, and product owners to build and expand NPR’s digital footprint, so that users can consume our content seamlessly. Though writing code has to be the most fun part of my day, other highlights include breaking down complex problems into small achievable tasks and thinking through solutions that are efficient, clean, scalable and transferable. I share my work through presentations, formal technical designs and code reviews. Feedback is really important to me. I don’t shy away from opinions on technical approaches that are different than mine, in fact I welcome them!Outside of my day-to-day, I’m currently interested in the developer user experience; looking to learn more about the practices and philosophies that when turned into norms, make a developer’s life easier and less stressful. Enterprise-level automated testing is something I’m also looking to learn more about.

    Pittsburgh, Pa, Us
For 6 weeks during the summer, I worked on a project with 8 other team members to redesign the web presence for the Pittsburgh Urban Christian School (a small school that offers a great but inexpensive education). We re-created their front end website by restructuring the navigation and page content so that it was intuitive to the parents, teachers, and alumni that would be visiting the site. We also created a user-friendly back-end family management system using Ruby on Rails that enabled parents to log in and add/edit information about themselves and their children and allowed administrators to edit families at large. I worked on all aspects of the project, but my role on the team was Design lead. I focused on site structure and consistency throughout both the front and back ends.Through this experience I learned a lot about project time management, leadership, use-case development, scope, and client interaction.
