About Samantha Coomber
Since leaving my native UK in 1998, I’ve been a full-time professional writer/ editor for two decades-plus in Asia Pacific: over 12 years in Vietnam, eight years in Bali, Indonesia and near-on five years in Australia, where I'm currently based. I'm a dual British-Australian citizen and BA (Hons) graduate. As a freelance travel writer , I’ve written for countless international magazines, newspapers, websites and travel guidebooks and am author of two first edition guidebooks (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City). I've been hand-picked to contribute to several travel anthologies, as guest speaker on two podcasts, guest lecturer for a US-based CEO delegation tour of Vietnam and international judge for the prestigious Asia Spa Awards. I was head-hunted to help set-up, launch and jointly-run a pioneering English-language tourist magazine for Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (V.N.A.T) in Hanoi, as Chief Reporter, Editorial Consultant and Sub-editor – the first foreigner employed full-time by Vietnam's State-run tourism department. I also have extensive experience as a content writer, copywriter, editor and editorial consultant for a broad portfolio of corporate and hospitality companies in Australia, Bali and Vietnam. Prior to this, I was a travel industry professional for 14 years in the UK, with positions covering holiday resort representative in European ski and summer seasons and Sales Manager, Agency Sales Supervisor and Marketing / PR Executive for Australasian tour operators. I’ve worked in seven countries and travelled to 27 countries, multiple times across Southeast Asia and Europe. Exciting travel highlights include: scaling Mount Kota Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo, epic white water rafting expeditions in Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, trekking the Himalayas in Bhutan and Nepal, exploring the Indonesian archipelago and sailing the Egyptian Nile on a Felucca boat.
Listed skills include Editorial, Editing, Magazines, Publishing, and 19 others.
