My role as a Bilingual IA requires me to assist EL students in the development of appropriate social behaviors. Since I work directly following the English Learning Development (ELD) students through different classes such as History, Science and Financing, I serve as a translator to facilitate communication. Along with the teacher staff, I co-facilitate in the development and maintenance of a learning environment appropriate to the special instructional requirements of students which in this case is their language barrier.

As part of the CSUF GEAR UP program, I form part of the GEAR UP Family Engagement team as the Family Engagement Specialist. The GEAR UP program partners with the Anaheim Union High School District to prepare middle school and high school students for college access and success. In my role as a Family Engagement Specialist, I work collaboratively with the GEAR UP Family Engagement Coordinator, AUHSD FACES (Family and Community Engagement Specialists), teachers, counselors and administrators at 3 different school sites: Savanna, Magnolia and Western HS. Within the Family Engagement Team we strive to also offer informative workshops for families to promote ongoing college culture, college readiness, financial aid literacy, etc. All workshops are available to GEAR UP parents/guardians via Zoom or in person. There is also Parent/Guardian advising and family college visits.

My primary role as a GEAR UP Success Ambassador was to collaborate with GEAR UP Staff and AUHSDpersonnel to assist students with their academic preparation and services related to the encouragement of students pursuing postsecondary education opportunities. I worked with the 8th graders that formed part of our 2024 cohort at one of GEAR UP's 3 target schools, Dale Junior High School. My responsibilities consisted of, but were not limited to: Accurately track the documentation of student one-on-one or group advising sessions, daily contacts and activities; Building rapport with School Site personnel; Conducting structured small group and one-on-one tutoring sessions in assigned subjects (e.g. reading, and/or writing)
