Profile bio

About Samantha Harvey

I have been working in education for 16 years, starting as a Learning Support Assistant, working very closely with Curriculum Teams and other Corporate Teams to ensure that all students, irrespective of their abilities, were able to achieve to their full potential, this often meant that I was required to share my expertise and knowledge of learning disabilities, and difficulties, with lecturers and other support staff. Within 3 years I progressed onto a full time lecturing post and Subject Leader role, and subsequently the role of Course Coordinator of an ever expanding and thriving computer games development provision. My desire and passion to teach goes back further than this though, to when I worked in the care industry as a Deputy Officer in charge of Day Care. During this time I was responsible for the development of skills and the promotion of education and development of the residents, who presented a wide range of learning disabilities or difficulties. To that end, my line manager suggested that I enroll onto a teaching course in order for me to further enhance the quality of my delivery of education to those in my care.Back to my current employer, as Course Coordinator I was responsible for ensuring that the needs of all students are met, by planning and delivering courses which cater for all abilities and allow each student to receive a high quality teaching and learning experience, which will permit them to achieve to their full potential.Whilst my extensive knowledge of supporting and delivering high quality teaching to students with a learning disability or difficulty is based primarily on my wealth of experience, I continuously strive to further enhance my own understanding of the issues surrounding disability and inclusion within education.Fast forward to December 2021 and I’ve finally moved into management in my newest role of Tutorial and Personal Development Manager at City College Plymouth. Tutorial and Personal Development has always been an area that I am excited and passionate about as I wholeheartedly believe that these elements of the study programme are essential in building a connected curriculum which develops responsible, respectful and active citizens and prepares our learners for life and work in modern Britain.

Listed skills include Adult Education, Lecturing, Tutoring, Coaching, and 31 others.
