I'm left-handed. By default, that makes me pretty unique. Only 10% of the world's population can write with their left hand — neat, huh?According to Left Brain, Right Brain theory, this means I am deeply creative. That makes sense; I almost pursued a career in the art field. Instead, I chose business. Why? Stability, mostly. So I developed my skills in marketing. I earned a B.B.A from Grand Valley State University in Marketing (and in International Business) and I gained over four years of experience.Because here's the thing about marketing: it's not just rooted in strategy, understanding people and their behaviors, defining your niche, or beating the competition. It's not just highly analytical. It doesn't just speak order and clarity into a chaotic world. It's also about inspiring change, developing products and programs that solve a problem, empathizing with stakeholders, and communicating in unique ways. It's a balance between linear thinking and innovation, research and intuition, process and creativity.I have always believed I was destined to be creative because I write with my left hand — I use my creative right brain as a way to communicate. But, just like the many clients I have worked with in my time at Steelcase, Carnegie, and now in my current role as Business Operations Program Manager at Mud Bay, I also strive for stability, clarity, and procedure. I toggle effectively, quickly, and strategically between process and innovation. I actively leverage both halves of my brain – the creative and the analytical – to be a professional that delivers exceptional and intentional results. It's about whole-brain thinking and doing. And I think that makes me so much more unique than just being left-handed.
