As the Library Media Specialist at an elementary school of over 800 students, I teach grades PreK-5 each week, focusing on a variety of topics such as reading skills, media and technology literacy, social-emotional skills, and collaboration.My current project is to increase the diversity of the school library collection and to include more multicultural titles and books written in the home languages of our MLL students.

As an elementary librarian at a Title I school, I was presented with unique challenges and opportunities to grow my students' literacy skills.In addition to being responsible for purchasing and curating resources for our school library, I taught 18 classes of students in grades Kindergarten through 5th, focusing on read-alouds, library skills, research methods, and media literacy. I also completed a diversity audit of the school library collection and reduced the average age of the collection by 2 years through wedding and purchasing updated titles.

As an Information Assistant, I provided reference services on the Children's Question Desk, offered Readers' Advisory services, helped plan and host outreach events, and created social media posts.As a Cataloging Clerk, I edited and created MARC records and internal notes for unique library kits and items that are not subject to traditional cataloging rules.

As The Urbana Free Library Adult & Youth Services Apprentice, I provided reference services on multiple question desks, assisted with events and programming, and gained invaluable practical experience in multiple facets of public librarianship.

As a Graduate Assistant, I was responsible for creating social media outreach posts and graphics, sending publicity emails for CCB events, updating the CCB website, hosting in-person and virtual events, and responding to patron requests via email. While the CCB was in the process of transitioning to a new space, I was also responsible for determining how the new space would be set up and used.
