About Samantha Leahan

Ever since I was in elementary school, I was drawn to the theatre. Unfortunately, that involved many, many years of thinking that I could act before I discovered my true passion: Stage Management. Thankfully, once I was introduced to it, I was hooked and haven't left since. I believe the key to being a successful Stage Manager is creating a safe and collaborative environment for everyone involved while being able to have a fun time.

Aea Stage Manager

Berkshire Theatre Group

Stockbridge, Massachusetts, United States

I was the AEA Stage Manager for two productions at Berkshire Theatre Group: What the Constitution Means to Me (a co-production with WAM Theatre, starring Kate Baldwin and directed by Kristen van Ginhoven) which had an almost entirely female production staff and cast, and The Smile of Her, the world premiere of Christine Lahti's new play, which she also starred in. It was directed by Robert H. Egan, who said "You're my favorite Equity Stage Manager." He gave me permission to share that quote!

Stage Manager

Crystal City, Virginia, United States

I was the Stage Manager for their remount of Beauty & the Beast. While it was a remount, I would say it was somewhere between a remount and a newly devised (mostly) silent movement-based piece. I was in charge of every rehearsal, tech, and performance and ensured that everything was running safely and smoothly. I called light cues while also operating the QLab and adjusting mic levels occasionally during the run of the performance. What was unique about this was the shadow puppetry (that you can see in the media section) which I was in charge of operating the projector to execute those moments. There were also lots of set changes that I was in charge of tracking and reminding the performers of.
