Profile bio

About Samantha Mon

Serving as mentor at Rutgers University, my perception of educational leadership changed from a one-way mentor-mentee dynamic to a shared authority between the educator and students, encouraging me to create an integrated learning environment that was more inclusive of the students’ individual needs and interests. Working as a career counselor while pursuing a master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education has further enhanced this intimate understanding of student development and its foundations. I have learned to help my students make rational choices within their own frame of reference rather than impose general opinions that are not specific to the students’ needs and abilities. This passion for educational mentorship, coupled with my devotion to cooperative program design with student organizations, has led me to expand their perceptions of their own capabilities beyond the academic context and opening their eyes to a wider range of possibilities. With such experiences in my life, I am motivated to become a mindful, culturally competent professional in higher education. I aspire to bolster the personal and professional growth of college students, to nurture their individuality, and to empower their ability to think creatively so that they can assume control over their futures and become action-oriented citizens of the world.

Listed skills include Career Counseling, Youth Mentoring, Civic Engagement, Leadership, and 8 others.
