Partnering with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Human Factors Engineering team to perform a variety of Human Factors services for various groups within the VHA.

Applied the UCD process to strategic and tactical efforts across my business unit. Strategic efforts included cross-product summative usability testing, creating UCD templates and providing educational sessions on the various aspects of UCD for individuals in other business units. Tactical efforts were primarily focused on creating and testing designs for ARRA compliance and working on internally used products. *Moved over to Allscripts after product acquisition from McKesson.

Performed user centered design activities for client company in the financial services industry. Activities included creating designs for new software program, performing usability evaluations, defining user and functional requirements, building prototypes, and creating new patterns for the group pattern library.

Performing user-centered design for a medical device used during coronary diagnosis and interventions. Activities included creation of prototypes to meet user and business needs, usability evaluations of prototypes and new product designs, user needs analysis, task analysis, business requirements modeling, user requirements modeling, leading design team activities, and ensuring timely creation of deliverables. Also responsible for ensuring design acceptance from all stakeholders.

Activities included usability evaluations of prototypes and new products, user needs analysis, task analysis, business requirements modeling, user requirements modeling, leading design team activities, and ensuring timely creations of deliverables.• Worked with various programs to create prototypes for usability testing and to hand off to developers as part of the user interface specifications.• Worked with a team designing a portal intranet for an enterprise-wide application.• Led design innovation teams through processes geared toward reducing project lifecycles.• Revised and co-stewarded a user interface design guide created to provide consistency in the look, feel, and architecture of applications used by the designated user group.

• Provided Human Factors support for network management software and designated hardware. Prioritized and coordinated HF testing between product teams and guided those teams through the user-centered design process for various products. • Planned and conducted task analyses, usability evaluations, and user profiling for Windows-based applications, HTML-based applications, web sites, handheld device interfaces and consumer hardware. • Daily activities included usability evaluation of prototypes and new products, user needs analysis using brainstorming and focus group methods, and product requirement identification based, in part, on competitive product analyses. • Developed a draft style guide for all HTML-based network management software and associated agents.

Worked for client company in the aerospace industry.• Conducted various design analyses for a proposal to the USAF to redesign the avionics for the C130 aircraft, including user profiles, task analyses, workload analyses, anthropometric analyses, usability analyses, and control and display layout and design. • Performed human engineering analyses and system safety analyses for a communications modification for a Navy submarine.

• Conducted user centered research focusing on usability issues of modern Army technology, particularly advanced displays. • Developed metrics for evaluating advanced display technology in accordance with current military standards and specifications. • Conducted research for NASA on pilot modeling. • Organized and managed the research efforts of several graduate and undergraduate students. • Taught graduate level courses in Human-Computer Interaction and Human-Machine Systems.
