About Sam Brown
As an engineer involved in additive processes for the last 12 years, my passion for 3D printing extends from my small, home resin printers through to the macro-scale aerospace projects I have been involved in. I have been fortunate enough to gain some experience on a wide range of systems covering electron beam, laser, wire arc, blown powder, plastic extrusion and stereolithography techniques.Various projects have given me familiarity with both parametric and surface (NURBS) modelling software such as Solidworks, Rhino and Fusion360 amongst others, as well as further additive tools like Netfabb, ANSYS, Meshmixer and Chitubox.Time spent in industry, academia and as a media production intern provided valuable experience in presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences, and the ability to write concisely for reports or research dissemination, in scientific or conversational style. I’m particularly proud of the hour spent live on BBC radio Norfolk answering any callers’ questions as part of the “Ask the Naked Scientists” show. Being forced to think on your feet is really exciting, especially when you don’t know the answer, as it requires you to be creative with the science that you do know to come up with the best solution that you can.
Listed skills include Solidworks, Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic, Cad/Cam, and 8 others.
