Hi, My name is Samara. I am a first-generation graduate student pursuing a Master's in Public Health in the College of Health at Lehigh University. I recently graduated from Lehigh with a BS in Population Health with two minors in Religion and Maternal and Child Health. I aspire to help dismantle health disparities in the population through research-based advocacy, especially among minority mothers. Health is generational, meaning our family history affects our health and the future members of our family. Therefore, it is critical to give women proper healthcare throughout their life course to ensure positive health outcomes for themselves and their children. I am a research fellow for a global initiative in Sierra Leone, that aims to decrease the maternal mortality rate via the distribution of our man-made test strips screening for UTIs and preeclampsia. Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to manage a research project in Sierra Leone exploring women's perceptions of the HPV vaccine. With these efforts, our team is able to advise the Sierra Leonean government and local NGOs on ways to increase vaccine uptake for young girls. Additionally, I conduct research in the local Bethlehem community under Professor Wakeel, examining how women develop resiliency throughout their life course to identify further supportive resources. Lastly, I serve as a UN Youth Representative for the Nadam Foundation based in India, on a mission to improve children's rights and gender equity. I aspire to help dismantle health disparities in the population through research-based advocacy. My diverse experiences have broadened my knowledge and skills, allowing me to create viable solutions to complex issues.
