In my capacity as a Young Investigator, I am being trained in all aspects of research from developing the research question, writing a proposal, implementing the study protocol, data management, learning the advanced techniques of data analysis, data dissemination through publications in open access peer-reviewed journals. As a part of my training primarily I am involved in coordinating the “Rotavirus virus vaccine impact assessment and Intussusception surveillance in India” an ICMR Taskforce project being carried out at 35 sentinel hospitals spread across ten states of India with The Wellcome trust research laboratory at CMC, Vellore as a referral Lab. As a part of this project I have identified, established and carrying out the acute gastroenteritis and intussusception surveillance at the sentinel hospitals. I am also involved in the data management and data analyses aspects related to the projects. The second is updating of the demographic surveillance area, which originated in work being done by Dr. Gagandeep Kang and Dr. Venkat in the 43 urban and rural areas of Vellore following 34,000 families including 150,000 populations on a regular basis. I have introduced the electronic data collection system for the regular update of this demographic surveillance area where information on births, deaths, pregnancies, Anthropometry, history of non-communicable diseases are collected. I have also introduced the process of verbal autopsy for all the deaths in the demographic surveillance area through an electronic data collection tool.
