An auditor in the United Nations' Internal Audit department of Office of Internal Oversight (OIOS), I possess over 20 years of progressively responsible professional experience in internal auditing and administration in the complex airline industry serving in various capacities starting from Internal Auditor up to Chief Audit Executive/VP Internal Audit and Compliance of Ethiopian Airlines. From 2010 to 2016, I was at the helm of Ethiopian Aviation Academy (Vice President) - the largest and most modern Aviation Academy in Africa, responsible for the basic and recurrent aviation schools. Educational credentials include: MBA (OUBS, UK) and BA (Accounting, AAU, Ethiopia), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA, IIA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA), and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). I have also passed the 4-part CPA exams. Also served as the volunteer President of Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Ethiopia, Executive member of Association of Airline Internal Auditors (IAAIA), Member of Information Systems Auditors Association (ISACA), and member of Open University Business School Alumni. I delivered various training to board members, managers, and auditors on issues related to an internal audit, risk, fraud, and corporate governance. Served as an audit committee member and Board member in Non-governmental organizations and a private commercial bank.Played a leadership role in many projects involving change including development of Internal Audit’s strategic plans, Internal Audit charter, quality manual, Fraud policy, Enterprise Risk Management, risk-based audit methodology, the introduction of competency-based training, and establishment of ultra-modern Academy in the airline. Provided direction and leadership with respect to all phases of each audit/review with a view to ensuring that internal audit standards are complied with and that audit/review objectives are achieved within budget.
