Hi, my name is Sam Berg, I have a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a graduate certificate in human resource management, and in April I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education. Moreover, I have learned to apply that knowledge; I have an extensive working, leadership, and volunteering history. I have experience as a leader in the service industry, the vulnerable sector, and litigation. I was an Assistant General Manager at the Montana’s on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, I won an award for tutoring from the District School Board of Niagara, I was the lead plaintiff in a labour lawsuit and helped negotiate a $30 million settlement, and I communicated my opinions on labour and ethics to news outlets like The New York Times and Toronto Star. As a result, I believe that I am uniquely qualified to work in human resources and/or occupational health and safety. In such roles, I believe I could leverage my education in ethics, human resources, and occupational health and safety to contribute to an efficient, safe, and compliant workplace. Moreover, I believe that my diverse background will give me an edge in engaging with the manyfold professionals and organizations with whom human resource, and health and safety professionals engage. Growing up I played hockey for the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL, and once I turned 18, I brought an action against the OHL to get minimum wage for the players. Additionally, I was trained as an actor and performed the lead role in a national television show. Further, I was trained as a tutor by the District School Board of Niagara, and won the District School Board of Niagara Director’s Recognition for Extraordinary Contributions. Finally, I wrote for the Grimsby Lincoln News. Simply, I believe that I can use my experience as a hockey player, performer, tutor, writer, and labour leader, to engage with employees effectively and aid organizational efficiency. Consequently, I believe that I have the knowledge, skills, tools, training, and experience to contribute to any human resource or occupational health and safety department.Ultimately, in so much as I have experience, a desire to continue learning, and an education in philosophy and human resources, I believe that I can support any human resource or health and safety team. I am capable, qualified, and excited to get started.
