About Sambit Pal
I am an experienced multimedia journalist and media educator with about 20 years in broadcast and digital journalism. Apart from being an educator teaching broadcast and multimedia journalism, productions, and AI ML in Media, I am a communication specialist with expertise in the field and online research and reporting, emerging media trends and technologies, political analysis and commentary (regularly appearing on shows and writing columns and post-edits), media training and content development.Presently, I am the In-Charge Director at the International School of Broadcasting and Journalism, MIT Art, Design and Technology University. Prior to my present job as an academician, I had a stint in the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in its Dhenkanal campus as an Assistant Professor of English Journalism. Prior to moving to academics, as a full-time broadcast and digital journalist for 16 years, I have extensively reported from the ground on Indian politics, elections, conflict, social issues, natural disasters and international issues. I have a proven track record in leading teams, problem-solving, strategising, innovation, ideating, generating and producing multimedia content and training. As a member of the India Training Network of Google News Initiative, I have been conducting workshops and training for journalists and journalism students on fact-checking and fake news verification. As a Chevening scholar, I did an MA in International Journalism from Cardiff University in the UK and a project-based dissertation on 'Economic integration of asylum seekers and refugees in the UK'. I am currently pursuing PhD in hyperlocal digital journalism. Apart from many popular articles in different media publications, several research papers and book chapters, I have also authored a book on West Bengal politics documenting its contemporary history (published by Bloomsbury India). I am open to any work or collaborations related to on and off-field research projects, documentation, political analysis and commentary, media content development and research in media trends and emerging technologies.
