As a member of the engineering team, I am working for a number of development projects alongside companies in the space and aerospace industries. My day to day tasks involve designing tooling, developing manufacturing processes and business development work. In addition, I also gain hands-on experience making precision components through a patented electrodeposition process.

I completed an 8-week internship working for a professor of robotics. I was tasked with developing concise and easy to follow tutorial sheets to teach first year students to use the Arduino microcontroller. Through this, I improved my own knowledge of sensor I/O with a PC and programming in C++.

To earn some money whilst at university, I gained this part time job alongside my studies. I worked as an assistant at an independent gemmology lab where I helped to grade diamonds and produce certificates of authenticity for individual gemstones.

During my 10 weeks as Trim and Chassis engineer, I was given responsibility for sections of the interior trim of the two vehicles produced at the Sunderland plant.

As a member of the Information Solutions team, I gained work experience in the technology industry. I was stationed on the support desk where I would help fix problems with the IT systems and hardware, and also carry out administrative tasks such as creating new user accounts and setting up laptops. I also performed some server and network maintenance.

After my first year at University I completed a 2-month work placement at the MMB Leeds office in summer 2017. I was given the role of Project Lead and was responsible for managing two small wastewater network schemes worth £80,000. I helped to help explore design options and evaluate the most effective solutions for flood alleviation schemes. The work mainly involved using CAD software to create site plans and drawings for the site engineers.
