I served as Director in PwC China for around 7 years in total setting up two different teams. Most recently I took responsibility for urbanisation and related projects including real estate and investment services in China. This role includes bringing a holistic approach to urbanisation including planning for people, rational development and realising a city's true potential. In practise this covered promotion planning and implementation, investment analysis, commercial due diligence, market research, development consultancy, marketing strategies and operations management for a full range of city development and real estate clients. My clients were usually government related and include public and private, Chinese and multinational real estate developers and investors. I worked with some of these clients on various project since 1995 and enjoy trusting relationships with many others resulting in repeat business and the inside track on new work as well as referrals to new business.I have worked with numerous cities around China at municipal or district government level and my work in this area has contributed to the evolution of rational plans for urbanisation in those cities to meet the needs of various stakeholders by adding a layer of strategic thinking and financial planning over the political led objectives. My role has included serving on 'expert panels' to help appraise development plans presented by 3rd parties in design and architectural competitions. Prior to the Urbanisation role I was Director in Advisory taking the lead in developing a real estate practice both for deal strategy and transactions related work.

Sam set up his own firm and in the process established a leading independent property advisory firm. Initially working mainly with Chinese property developers to provide an international view specialising in development consultancy, the firm later diversified into intelligence led leasing and acquisition transactions covering retail, office and residential sectors. The firm secured major appointments from city level development companies, inbound institutional investors, international retailers and high net work individuals.Building on experience in historic areas of Shanghai and Beijing as well as residential property refurbishment, Sam used his experience to support investment fund start ups including preparation of marketing materials, fund raising presentations and compiling PPM's.

Initially responsible for real estate research publications and consultancy projects Sam raised the profile of the firm in mainland China creating a 'shop window' for the firm. He quickly became known for writing incisive commentary about the Chinese property markets and his thoughts were widely quoted in the global print media at the time. Being able to 'explain the inexplicable' meant he was an early believer in Pudong New Area and positioned himself to become a 'trusted advisor' and win repeat business from government development companies. As part of the management team responsible for building the Savills (then First Pacific Davies) operations in China he contributed to the firms success and market leading position. As General Manager he took overall management responsibility for Shanghai office operations and bottom line before moving on to set up his own firm.

Established the office, hired the team and developed new business opportunities in the newly emerging Shanghai real estate market. Engaged by Chinese and foreign clients for a variety of real estate assignments.
