Since 1997 I've been trading under the name Elegant Chaos, both developing commercial software and contracting out my programming services to others.These days I am concentrating on macOS and iOS (iPhone and iPad) software, though I have a lot of experience in other areas too.

Working on the Mac application Sketch. In my time with Bohemian, I helped to oversee the growth of the development team, scaling up from a single developer originally to approximately seven engineers at current count. This involved putting in place procedures such as unit testing, continuous integration, coding standards, code reviews, feature branches and.

During this stint at SI I wrote, refactored, ported and maintained a number of the low level cross platform libraries that support the games, across a number of platforms including Mac, Windows, PSP, Xbox 360 and Linux.

I worked as lead tools programmer for an internal prototype of a PS3 action football title (it was eventually dropped, some months after I left Sony).I wrote a C++ tools framework to run on Windows and the PS3, plus a little bit of C#/.Net for Windows.

Redesigned and rewrote the cross platform user interface toolkit for Championship Manager (now Football Manager), creating an XML-based UI layer with dynamic layout and a full set of widgets. Constantly surprised at how many people love the game, even though it is deeply unfashionable. Played in goal for numerous Sports Interactive five-a-side teams.

Developed cgi scripts, automated web sites and interactive multimedia. Had lunch in the presence of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Listened to Alan Parson's personal surround sound mix of Dark Side of The Moon. All in a day's work.

Developed some tricky low level sound code for playing and synchronising lots of noise in a nice way. Ported said code from the mac to the pc. Hung out in recording studio pretending not to be interested in famous people.

Parachuted into a somewhat troubled project by my friends Maf & Kevin, when I decided to leave Ultralab. I didn't quite know what I was letting myself in for!Would honestly have seen the damn thing through if I had been contacted by anyone other than Peter Gabriel's studio!

Ultralab was a research centre dedicated to exploring the broad area of technology in education. I worked there for nearly four years, as part of an eclectic team that included artists, musicians, educationalists, economists and psychologists to name but a few.I spent most of my time working on educational software, and experimenting with the possibilities.
