Daikin Europe NV is the European daughter company of the Japanese Daikin Ltd. The core business of Daikin is to build air-condition units.Hopping on the train of the internet of things, Daikin decided to invest in a technology center in Ghent, Zwijnaarde to build hardware and software to connect their HVAC systems to the cloud.My job is to build software that enables customers to control their units from the cloud using a web interface or app. This involves working with the latest web technologies but also interfacing with hardware controllers that do machine to machine communication. The coolest part about my job is that I have to do a lot of reverse engineering of legacy hardware and software. This way, the front-end team can build cool new interfaces on top of the legacy hardware.It's a great place to work at with a great atmosphere. Especially on Breakfast Thursday!

Smash It was my first start up. With a team of friends, our goal was to bring families back together around the one thing we're all addicted too: smartphones and tablets.At the core of our product range, we built some advanced hardware buttons for multiplayer game play. Our first product was a multimedia trivia game, where one had to play the quizmaster and the others buzzing in.We tried funding our hardware using Kickstarter but didn't make it.Smash It as a product idea is currently on the shelf.More on smashit.be

At iMinds Media Lab, we worked together with most media companies in Flanders: Studio 100, Medialaan, VRT, .. We made prototypes for all kinds of projects. This ranged from simple web applications to our own custom hardware. We played around with the first Oculus Rift, even made an app for that. We attended several hackathons and won one of the first Philips Hue lights in a competition. We made our own toys that interacted with the iPad via Bluetooth. We build an iOS and Android application for Studio 100 to make the audience interact with the stage. We made hardware that, to this day, is still used at qmusic, a national radio station. In short, at iMinds Media Lab I learned so many different technologies in such a short time. It was amazing experience with an amazing team.

Graduating from university, VRT-Medialab felt like the dream job. And it surely was! I was thrilled when they hired me. Combining my passion for TV and movie making with computer science. I worked closely with Sputnik media on giving the production crew of Tournée Générale a comprehensive tablet application to gather information, annotate scripts, annotate tapes... After one year, VRT-Medialab was shut down. Most of us transferred to IBBT which later changed its name to iMinds and is now part of imec.
