About Sam Degges

I am passionate about serving the government, especially in defense and national security. I am currently studying Political Science with a Minor in International Affairs at the University of Colorado Boulder, where I am learning more about defense policy, global issues, and international relations. I also have experience with basic statistical analysis and coding, which helps me analyze data and support decision-making in defense settings.Having lived overseas in China, Japan, and Singapore while my father worked for the government, I gained a global perspective that has shaped my understanding of international diplomacy. I am also proficient in Japanese, further enabling my ability to engage in global affairs. These experiences have fueled my passion and desire to contribute to the government, particularly in defense roles. As the Risk Management Chair for Phi Kappa Sigma, I work to identify and manage risks to keep our fraternity safe. This role has taught me how to make thoughtful decisions and solve problems in high-pressure situations. I also served as Brotherhood Chair, where I organized events to strengthen our chapter’s community. Through our philanthropy work with organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I’ve also contributed to the Denver community while managing my studies. In addition to my academic and leadership work, I coach youth soccer at Boulder Indoor Soccer. Coaching has helped me build skills in leadership and mentoring, and it’s rewarding to support young athletes as they grow. I also enjoy giving back to my community through this role.In my free time, I embrace the outdoor lifestyle of Boulder through snowboarding and hiking. When I am not in my favorite study place, the Norlin Library, I enjoy watching and following college football, especially cheering on the Colorado Buffaloes under Coach Deion Sanders. With my background in international affairs and leadership, I am excited to pursue a career in government defense. I want to use my skills and experiences to support national security, policy development, and risk analysis, making a positive difference for the future.
