About Sam Jones
I am an educator, creative producer & music consultant based in Cornwall and working internationally on arts development and delivery, project artistic direction, project design and production, co-creation and audience engagement. I've led teams in producing high-impact arts and culture festivals and content with a diverse range of stakeholders. I run projects throughout Africa, the Middle East and Europe, working with inspirational people and with funders such as the Arts Council England, PRSF, Heritage Fund, British Council, Goethe Institute, Alliance Francaise, HIVOS to name a few. I’m passionate about working on community-driven projects and working closely with local authorities and community leaders. I also lecture at Falmouth University.As a music producer, I’ve worked with many household names and emerging grassroots artists. My studio was in London for over eight years, and I’m now building a residential recording space and creative retreat in Cornwall. Working with local partners to route artists into our leading creative rural communities, record their music and organise local collaborations. My research interests include tracing the role of cultural relations organisations in international touring and festival management. Exploring how artistic freedoms are exercised where funding from the global north facilitates events in the global south.

I was lead Production manager for all Borough of Culture High Profile Events. Including; Opening and Closing shows, Africa Express, Art Night, Liberty Arts (GLA), Arts Assembly, Welcome to the Forrest, Polish Jazz Series, Stay Another Day Campaign and many more.I produced the 'London is Open' inspired Africa Express show with over £350,000 budget. Working closely with City of London and Epping Forest, engaging Waltham Forest and Redbridge licensing teams so that the site I chose (which sat on the border) was licensed appropriately. Drafted site plans, site infrastructure and site logistics. Contracted food and drink suppliers. Advanced technical riders and procured equipment suppliers for extensive backline and PA requirements.Contributed and presented at many Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meetings for large scale festivals for all environmental health, licensing and emergency services. Sort and processed Letters of Sponsorship for Tear5 Visa's. Booked freelance production support and crew, artist liaison, event security Processed invoices and monitored payment schedules for artists and contractors. Monitored applications and sat on decision making panel for grants. Host cultural infrastructure steering group including legacy and impact panels. Curated a community space called One Hoe Street; this was a space for artists and voluntary groups to engage with Borough of Culture program in ways they might not normally get the chance too. I then co-created with them their arts program. This place became a unique space where the residents of the borough could have a main point of contact between the arts community and Waltham Forest Local Authority.

I managed an artists-in-residence program called Resonations, an international and online artist residency programme led by the British Library and supported by the British Council. The two resident artists for Resonations 2023 were Emma Mbeke Nzioka and Nicholas Calvin Mwakatobe. Here I ran the selection process and completed the final evaluation of the program. I also facilitated their showcasing opportunities at BBC 6Music and Music in Africa in Tanzania as well as many other public-facing events. This enabled the artists to interface with international audiences online and local communities in East Africa.

The last project of 2019 drew together all of my skills of working under pressure in festival and event and music production. I was approached by London Records to rerecord and produce a track by local legendary band East17. Here I worked closely with Tony Mortimer (original band member) Joe Duddle (Arranger for Elbow), Waltham Forest Music services, a 100 strong members choir and a local brass band; East London Brass. Besides the creative side of producing the record, I led the production of their TV and radio and live show performances and campaigns. Booking backline and PA for ITV This Morning, drafting stage plans for 100 strong choir including ensuring all BOPA licenses and permissions had been correctly obtained and filed.
