About Sam Edgemon

Working as a consultant and using analytics, I've solved substantial problems in healthcare, education, manufacturing, sports, utilities, financial and retail industries. The opportunity to have a diverse work experience was by design, which can be reflected in my degrees and choice of career path. The things that have driven my success can be attributed (to a large extent) to Curiosity, Creativity and Empathy.-> Curiosity about data has promoted exploration and discovery-> Creativity has led to novel solutions to challenging problems-> Empathy has provided insights beyond "the ask" to vital business needsA strong technical foundation is certainly important, and my "toolbox" consists of programming languages like SAS, Python, and R as well as a "bag of tricks" that only experience can provide. I strive to develop systematic approaches to analytics "that stick" long after the consulting relationship is over. With that in mind I promote "the process of analytics" versus a standalone model. A process considers the approach to the problem, developing data, developing relevant models, validation, deployment, and testing results. The goal is to consistently deliver information that is actionable and really matters.I typically lead the effort from the analytical perspective, and really enjoy developing the relationships with clients and customers. When the opportunity presents itself, I also enjoy teaching various aspects of the process (and have taught both data scientists and analysts as well as executives that wish to become “citizen data scientists.”}Contact: (919) 531-9824, sam.edgemon@sas.com
