Sameena Usman serves as the Government Relations Coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, San Francisco Bay Area office, where she works with elected officials in advocating for impactful legislation, connects them with their constituents, and provides information about the Bay Area Muslim community and their concerns - including civil rights issues. Through her work, she also actively builds bridges with various communities and conducts interfaith dialogue.In addition, Sameena informs the American Muslim community of their rights and empowers them through facilitating their advocacy locally, in Sacramento, and Washington D.C. She works closely with American Muslim youth by mentoring volunteers and interns in order to empower them to advocate directly to their elected officials. Sameena has been interviewed by numerous media outlets to highlight issues for the American Muslim community, including NBC Bay Area, KTVU2, KRON4, ABC7, KSFO, Mercury News, LA Times, SF Chronicle, SF Examiner, Contra Costa Times, among other news outlets. Sameena was awarded the Community Hero award from Assemblyman Kansen Chu and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Leadership awards by Congressman Ro Khanna as well as by then Assemblyman Wieckowski.
