Student Intern
My main responsibilities included website development, executing SQL commands, managing databases, and improving user access to databases. I worked on the main website and developed separate, streamlined websites to automate tasks and enhance my team's efficiency. I also reviewed legacy code, identified areas for improvement, and assisted colleagues with technical challenges.A significant aspect of my placement was my involvement in the foodbank initiative at the plant. I created PowerBI reports to manage data and assisted with donation drop-offs, adding a meaningful dimension to my work.Throughout my placement, I participated in daily sprint meetings, retrospective meetings, and global IT department meetings, gaining insights into agile methodologies and collaborative efforts. I also had the chance to tour the plant and other BMW facilities across the UK, which broadened my understanding of manufacturing processes and operational efficiency. One of the most rewarding experiences was attending a Q&A session with a head of IT on generative AI, where I learned about the company's plans to integrate AI technology. This experience, along with regular feedback from my team, helped me grow both professionally and personally.I enhanced my skills in C#, HTML, CSS, SQL, Blazor, Oracle SQL, and PowerBI. My confidence and presentation abilities improved significantly, culminating in a presentation to the senior leadership team of the plant.Living independently for the first time, I developed crucial time management, independence, and networking skills. Engaging in various intern social events and team-building activities further honed my social skills and professional network. This placement was a transformative experience, equipping me with valuable skills and insights that I will carry forward into my future career in software development or research. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to applying these experiences in future roles.
