Applied machine learning and NLP on the Geo Search Ranking team to drive projects that hit billions of users across Search, Maps, and Assistant.Highlight: Launched and led development for a new cross-modal ranking ML system for Google Reviews (globally) that resulted in +3% DAU growth, and outperformed the legacy system by 7x according to offline evaluations.Other projects: Topical clustering, Spam & abuse detection, Enhanced indexing/retrieval for 'local' queries, Home/Work/POI inference using location, Local intent classification from search queries.

Created a new position within AppDev (a student-run mobile development club) in order to create synergy between different AppDev teams, and to ensure the team is focused on creating user-focused products for the Grinnellian community.• Formulated a user testing pipeline that allows Appdev to have access to user buckets to test new features and products, run Guerrilla testing, and solicit feedback.• Discussed and worked with engineering regarding API design, and high-level architecture for our apps.• Ensured engineering and design executed based on a shared vision. Created roadmaps that took user feedback into account, and maintained Trello boards to enable cross-team visibility and transparency.• Inspired the group to be more aware of user metrics, and drafted different KPIs for our different apps.• Collaborated with designers to create mockups and prototypes using Sketch and InVision. Also allowed communication between design and engineering to be as efficient as possible (making sure mockups are spec'd, and that there was a presence of a dialogue between the two).

Worked on Yahoo Sports for Android.• Helped ship Yahoo Sports 6.0 (biggest release in 4 years) for Android. Worked on implementing a newer theme style, re-architecturing scoring summaries and picks buttons.• Redeveloped the Twitter stream to incorporate native image/video/GIF support, hotlinking and native Tweet actions. Led the feature from incubation to production: made product decisions in conjunction with my mentor, team's lead PM and designers.• Participated in weekly sprints, did bug fixes and catered to other small feature requests.

Led Android development at AppDev (a student-run mobile development group @ Grinnell College). Led a team of 5 Android developers to help and lead projects such as G-licious (more than half of the college community were users), Grinnell DB and the S&B. • Made code reviews part of the engineering workflow.• Evangelized and introduced new libraries and technologies, such as Realm, Butterknife, Picasso and Retrofit/OkHttp to help cut engineering related overhead by multiple factors.• Carried out a reorg to create a more modular Android team. Assigned project owners, encouraged greater collaboration with the design team, and switched to a more Agile style of development.• Aided in making any administrative decisions the organization made e.g managing the budget, new projects, outreach, and communicating with the Student Government.

Worked on Kifi's Android platform.• Implemented an image carousel view that fetches images from the Flickr API asynchronously, allowing realtime image selection.• Developed caching infrastructure using MapDB and Bolts to be used throughout the app, reducing load times by up to 90%.• Created a share intent extension that allows users to save articles to libraries, or launch chats on webpages straight from the chrome browser.• Made an autocomplete spinner search view, using autotextcomplete and integrating it with a custom implementation of Recycler View.

Trained tech consultant. Helped students out with issues such as malware, backups, and connectivity.

Helped create a graphic rendering engine which utilizes user-input in the form of mathematical functions, and attempts to create a pixel-by-pixel image representation of that very function.

• Productionized cutting-edge computer vision on Android. Developed a demo, and built an alpha version of the android SDK. The product would be a way to let developers use Ingrain's patented computer vision technology to intelligently place ads in video.• Helped redesign and revise the Groopic app (by Ingrain) for Android (has 500,000 users), while taking Android L's new material design philosophy into account.
